Airbus promises mobile connection and access to the Internet from aboard a plane in 2006
A European holding company Airbus announced that it planed to provide the passengers of new planes with a possibility to use their mobile phones during the flight already in 2006.
Now the company is testing its new equipment for an aerobus model Airbus A320 in Toulouse, France. According to the announcements of the specialists even now they have already achieved the total absence of any noises harmful to the navigational equipment committed by mobile phones being used for holding a conversation and sending text messages.
It is expected that in the nearest future the tests for compatibility of the navigational equipment and handheld computers will be committed in another laboratory of the company German Aerospace Centre DLR.
It is interesting that Boeing the main rival of Airbus is also developing their system of internet service that is called Connexion. Also it should be reminded that German Lufthansa announced its service Lufthansa FlyNet for accessing the Internet from aboard their planes in May this year and plans to introduce the same service for long distance flights in the first quarter of 2006.
As for the system applied in the new planes by Airbus the technology is based on small board basic stations called "picocell" that direct the calls to ground-based mobile networks via Globalstar communicational satellites.
As it is known Airbus in a collaboration with a Swiss SITA and North American Tenzing has announced their plans to form a new company that will integrate such technologies in practice. The purpose is to provide the passengers with a reliable connection and access to the Internet via their mobile phones, PDA and notebooks and the payment will be committed via a mobile operator or internet provider of a user.
