Germanwings To Start Flights From Stuttgart Sept. 15
COLOGNE, Germany -(Dow Jones)- German discount airline Germanwings said Wednesday that it will start flying from Stuttgart airport to various European cities from Sept. 15.
The announcement, which the German media has been expecting for several days, comes after the company's main competitor Hapag-Lloyd Express, part of TUI , said it will start flights to two cities in Italy from Stuttgart in October, with two more Italian cities following in December.
Germanwings, minority-owned by Lufthansa , said it will start with flights to Prague, Barcelona, Vienna, Budapest, Thessaloniki, Lisbon and Istanbul. Some of the flights will be offered on a daily basis, others three times a week.
Bookings for the flights can be made as of Aug. 4. With the start of the winter flight schedule, more flights from Stuttgart are likely, the discount airline said.
