Budget fliers bound for Germany's Rhein-Ruhr region have received a blow after news that Germanwings will scrap its Birmingham to Koln-Bonn service.
The low-cost German airline operates four flights a week between the two destinations but will axe the service from March 24, according to Luchtzak Aviation.
But, as is often the case with cheap flights, when one airline exits a route, another pops up in its place.
German airline Hapag-Lloyd Express will gladly play knight in shining armour by starting a new service between Birmingham and Koln-Bonn from May 11.
By offering five weekly flights, Hapag-Lloyd Express will more than fill the gap left by Germanwings.
Hapag-Lloyd Express also offers flights from Manchester, Newcastle and Dublin.
