1) If an engine with float type carburetor backfires when the throttle is advanced a likely cause is:
a. accelarating pump is out of order?
b. idle mixture too lean?
c. float level too high?
2) if the volume of air passing through a carburetor venturi is reduced the pressure at the venturi throat will:
a. increase
b. decrease
3)why doew the smoothness of operation of an engine increases with the greater number of cycles?
a.The power impulses are spaced closer together?
b. The power impulses are spaced further apart?
c. The engine has a larger counter balance weight?
4) which of the following items would decrease the volumetric efficiency of a piston engine?
a. low carburetos temperature and air inlet heating system off?
b. low carburetor temperature and low cylinder head temperature?
c. high cylinder head temperatyre and air heating system on?
5)in ISA as sea level with idle RPM the manifold pressure indicates 29.92Hg .You can conclude that:
a. the indicator has to be checked
b. the altimeter setting value is correct
6)In a tachometer indicator the pointer is driven by:
a. a torque synhro-receiver
b. a drag-cup coupling
c. an ac servometer
7)how is the idling RPM adjusted on a carburetor engine?
a. by adjusting the needle valve?
b. by adjusting the mixture?
c. bu adjusting the minimum opening position of the throttle valve?
The output of a tachometer generator is :
a. variable frequency as a function of rotor speed?
b. the result of eddy current induced in a fixed drag-cup?
c. constant frequency and variable amplitude alternating current?
9) The most likely cause of detonation in a piston engine is:
a. early ignition timing
b. late ignition timing
10) pistons pins in most aircraft engines are lubricated by:
a. pressure oil through a drilled passageway in the connecting rod
b. the action of the piston oil control ring and the series of holes drilled in the ring groove
c. oil which is sprayed or thrown by the master connecting rod
