Leg 1 LGAV EGLL BAW631 B763 & Leg 2 EGLL KJFK BAW0177 B744
The day before the flight I logged in BA website and checked in online. For this flight I choosed seat 3A. I arrived at the airport at 05:30 in the morning and went to Club Europe check in just to tag my suitcase. After that a short stop in the book shop to get a book since the journey is long, then through passport control and to the BA lounge at Athens. Nice atmosphere with plenty coffee orange juice and muffins
.
As time closed by I left the lounge and through the fast track passed the security and then at the gate. The boarding started first from rows 20 and back. Some waiting and boarded the 767 with a smiley crew welcoming us. After sitting and just before the final passengers boarded I asked if I could visit the cockpit just to say a high and maybe take some pics. My request was granted and there I was

A powerful departure, runway heading and short after a left turn direct PIKAD. Nice view of morning Athens with the old LGAT in the distance, salamina, Megara airport and Korinth canal.

The service soon started, after the hot towels the tray arrived. It contained Yogurt and a selection of fruits, strawberries, kiwi, and oranges. The hot selection was or a full English breakfast or vegetarian one. I chose for the vegetarian since I don’t like eating sausages in the morning. The service of hot drinks delayed a bit since over Albania we entered in turbulence for some time and the captain had the seat belt sign on for about 30 minutes. After the trays removed I opted for some sleep since I was up since 9 o’clock the previous day. Unfortunately a small child around 3 was making all kind of noises. So no sleep today
. The arrival was smooth at 27R at Heathrow 10 minutes earlier than expected.

What I didn’t like on the 767 Business class is that the pitch and the leg room is not enough for that kind of class in my opinion. I have traveled OAL Business and the leg room is much much better, and I am not talking about A340.
After a short taxi at the gate, we deplaned and start the long walk toward flight connection. Traveling in Club World I used the fast track at security and was in terminal 4 in a record time of 25 minutes!!! Having 3 hours to go before the departure I went to lounge Pavilion at Gate10. Very nice and spacious. Some more coffee with croissant, followed later by sandwiches with salmon. The boarding was called all the way to Gate1A, about 10 minutes walking from the lounge. Passing tickets and passport control I realized that there was no Jetway but we were going by bus to our 747. After a 10 min drive I boarded the 747 and went up to the roof garden

I had booked seat 62A, which is just in front of the upper deck emergency exit so more leg room. I was offered the option of orange juice or campaign plus the amity kid containing shocks an eyes shade and some creams. I choose the orange juice for the time being. The departure was delayed for about 40 minutes because as the captain informed us there was a bus shortage at Heathrow, and only one bus was used to transfer the passengers to the aircraft. Further more the aircraft had ice below its wings from the previous trip and we had to de-ice.

I must say being the first time being in a 747-400 and seating in a rear facing seat the take off was something that can not be described. The service was soon started this time I choose the campaign, also the menu were given. For started I choosed the salmon, for main the chicken and for desert the Tiramisu. In the mean time another glass of campaign was consumed followed by two glasses of red wine. After the meal hot towels were passed and I decided to recline fully the seat in order to get some sleep. Being 1.90 in height I couldn’t fit and I had to “fight” my way In order to find a suitable position. During the rest of the trip the crew was passing regularly to offer drinks, and a self-service bar was operated at the rear galley. One hour before our arrival the sandwich service started the option was for a salmon sandwich or a vegetarian. Having enough salmon for one day I took the vegetarian which was a very good choice. After the service the crew prepared the aircraft for the arrival at JFK. A smooth landing at 31R and quickly to T7.

I enjoyed the 747 experience. Nice friendly crew, calling you by the surname, nice big IFE touch screens with a variety of movies and games.
