Lufthansa ready to support Aeroflot joining Star Alliance

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Lufthansa is ready to support Aeroflot in joining Star Alliance, Guenther Ott, the regional director of Lufthansa in Russia and the CIS, told Interfax.

Ott said the airlines meet regularly and this is one of the issues discussed. Lufthansa believes Aeroflot should chose Star Alliance as this would be mutually advantageous. But the decision lies with Aeroflot, he said.

It is important for Lufthansa and Star Alliance to have a Russian partner in order to better serve the interests of the tourist industry and passengers, Ott said.

Ott would not say if Lufthansa planned talks with other Russian airlines about Star Alliance, if Aeroflot decided not to join.
