The Cyprus government is close to reaching a 300million Euro agreement with combined foreign and local consortium Hermes Airports for the construction of a new airport at Larnaca and the upgrading of Paphos.
Hermes comprises a number of local companies together with Ireland's Aer Rianta International, and French interests Bouygues Batiment and the Chambre de Commerce et D'Industrie Nice Cote D'Azur.
The Cypriot government began negotiating with Hermes in September last year, after talks with preferred bidder Alterra Consortium for the 25-year build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract fell through at the end of July.
British-led Alterra, which pulled out of the six-month long negotiations fearing rising costs, consisted of a group of Cypriot companies along with Bechtel and Barclay's Private Equity.
