The skyline of Gatwick Airport changed forever this week when a 32 metre high passenger bridge linking the North Terminal to the new Pier 6 development was moved into place. The bridge is the first of its kind at any airport in the UK, and the largest of its kind in the world. It will span a live taxiway, with aircraft the size of a Boeing 747-400 able to pass beneath.
BAA has invested £100 million into the Pier 6 development at the North Terminal to create a satellite building providing 11 pier-served aircraft stands. It is the biggest development at Gatwick since the opening of the North Terminal itself in 1988, and is a real sign of confidence in the future prosperity of the airport. It will provide an amazing experience for passengers, with stunning views across the airfield, and is a key part of Gatwick's sustainable development strategy.
