RYANAIR is to set up its 17th European base in Bremen, its second hub in Germany.
The airline has bought a low-cost terminal facility at the airport for about EUR8m after an EU tender process.
From April next year, Ryanair will base three Boeing 737-800 planes in the German city and start nine new routes.
The airline says that its total investment in the base will be EUR165m.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary said that there were 13m people living in the Bremen catchment area. The airline says the move will deliver one million passengers a year.
On the Dublin market yesterday, Ryanair shares closed the session three cent, or 0.4pc, lower at EUR7.82.
The nine routes from Bremen will include London, Oslo, Barcelona, Murcia, Tampere, Venice, Pisa, Riga and Verona.
