Air France steps up its Fleet Modernization Program with the Replacement of 18 Boeing 747s by Boeing 777-300ERs and 777 Freighters
On 20 June 2007, at Le Bourget Paris Air Show, Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, President and COO of Air France, and Scott E. Carson, President of Boeing Commercial Airplanes signed an agreement concerning Air France's firm order of nine Boeing 777-300ERs. This agreement concerns the first stage in the replacement by Air France of 18 Boeing 747-400s by the latest-generation Boeing 777s.
The airline's fleet renewal program will now include 13 Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft (replaced by an identical number of Boeing B777-300ERs) and five Boeing 747-400ERF (freighters), replaced by Boeing 777 Freighters. This renewal plan will reach completion in 2012/2013. The fleet plan will eventually be supplemented with the exercising of options.
This order is in line with the AIR FRANCE KLM Group's strategy to improve the quality of service offered to its passengers, while reducing operating costs and optimising its environmental performance.
The arrival of the new Boeing 777s at Air France will result in a reduction of over 20% of its CO2 emissions and its fuel consumption.
