WestJet announced its Board of Directors has approved the purchase of 6 Boeing 737-600s. The airline expects to take delivery of 3 aircraft in 2005 and 3 in 2006. In addition the airline entered into an agreement with Boeing to convert the purchase rights for 12 additional B737NGs to options for delivery in 2006.
In 2000, WestJet signed an agreement with Boeing to purchase 26 737-700s with the right to purchase 48 additional aircraft. With this announcement, WestJet has now converted 19 of the original 48 purchase rights to firm orders and converted 12 purchase rights to option. WestJet's deliveries in 2005 will consist of 5-800s, 7-700s and 3-600s. The airline's current commitments for 2006 consist of 1-700, 3-600s and option to purchase 12 additional 737NGs which could consist of any one or a combination of these three models.
At the end of 2005, WestJet will have a total of 66 737s in its fleet including 51 NGs and 15 -200s.
